Panama City Beach Hints & Tips

Before you sink your toes into Panama City Beach's sugar-white sand, make sure you've got all the essentials for enjoying a day in the sun and surf!

Beach book or magazine

Plastic water bottle

Plastic sealable bag/cosmetic case

Suncreen & lots of it!

Sunglasses (look for UV400 label)

Electronics-put cameras, cell phones, and iPods back into their cases and then store in a plastic bag.

Swimsuit, cover up, flip flops and maybe an extra set of clothes

Pare down wallet essentials--instead of a wallet, just bring some cash, driver's license, ATM card and car keys in a small waterproof container.

Beach Warning Flags

When swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, safety should be your top priority. In Panama City Beach color-coded beach flags are in place to keep the public aware of sea conditions at all times.

The beach warning flags fly in 5 different colors, and they mean the following:

Double Red - Danger! Water Closed to Public (During the summer, airplane banners may be flown alerting of the conditions)
Single Red - High Hazard, High Surf and/or Strong Currents
Yellow - Medium Hazard, Moderate Surf and/or Currents
Green - Low Hazard, Calm Conditions, Exercise Caution
Purple - Dangerous Marine Life (Usually Jellyfish)

Be aware that conditions in the Gulf of Mexico are constantly changing. Watch the flag colors at all times, and use good judgment to determine whether it's safe to enter the water. The beach flags are there for your protection, so keep an eye on them!
